Omegle closed after 14 years amid serious legal and safety challenges
Omegle shut down in November 2023. Contemporary reporting described the founder’s statement as well as legal pressure and criticism over abuse on the service. That history is relevant because a replacement should be judged on more than instant access and a large pool of strangers.
Do not read the shutdown as proof that every random chat is the same. Use it as a reason to ask sharper questions about moderation, user controls, age expectations and how easily a participant can leave or report a harmful room.

Check the room
Know whether you are entering 1v1 chat, a public feed or a group space
A focused one-to-one room has a different social shape from a public broadcast. Check who can see or join, whether both people are live at the same time and whether the service explains what information appears before a match.
Camatch Live is organized around one person at a time. That reduces crowd noise, but it does not remove stranger risk or guarantee privacy. The format and the safety claim are not the same thing.

Check the controls
Skip, block and report should be understandable in the moment
Skip or end handles a normal mismatch. Block handles unwanted future contact. Report alerts the platform to behavior that may violate rules or put others at risk. A useful alternative makes these differences visible instead of hiding every action in a menu.
Look for clear community expectations and a reachable safety or support surface. Controls only help when people can find them under pressure and understand what happens after they act.

Check your own boundary
No feature replaces a careful first conversation
Keep identifying details out of frame, avoid private or financial information and leave when someone pressures you to move platforms, send images or prove trust. Do not let “anonymous” or “private” become a promise the product cannot enforce on another participant’s device.
Try the service with a small goal and a short session. A good alternative should let you enter deliberately, understand the room and leave without negotiation.
